The Party Inside
Examining the metaphysics of time and place,
concerning ourselves with no more than the wall,
the party starts to take a feverish pace
with everyone in a satisfactory state,
seemingly ready to take part in the festivities of relativity
while inhaling the red rose that fills the room of the man
saying ceci n’est pas une pipe yet is still smoking.

An epoch in, the party wants nothing to do with psychoanalytic theory,
cursing the red rose for being obscene;
Freud’s out the door and so is the painter.
(Great minds think alike. I see no flower in the room,
only the girl that gives off that blooming smell,
sitting on the couch and holding the stem of her glass
as though the whole house should know her scent.)

In the early morning hours, the party starts coming out,
leading the neighbors to think we are all going mad.
At the end of an age, the party chases itself about the lawn;
given over to the id, we are all in a splendid fit.
Welcome to the 21st century where egos run amuck.
