Prey to the Weather

Probability rises.
Happenstance closes in like dark clouds.
Summer’s slow in coming,
and time becomes something foreign
for a cold-while longer.

Empty boardwalks,
abandoned homes,
and everybody suffocates
in their own matter
as snow ceaselessly falls.

Down in rag-and-bone alley
feel the patter of rabbit feet
running like fleeting time:
a clock hung on a wall
of a foreclosing home.
