12.31.19

1 Outback, on the porch of the decade,
2 the purposeful serenity of time
3 sculpts rock slowly in the final hours:
4 the year is countless raindrops into a stream,
5 flowing like water through bedrock,
6 pulling down flotsam and jetsam
7(victim to the drive toward the sea).
8
9 Flooding light upon a silhouetted figure
10 reveals the wondrous shape unearthed
11 by the infinite strikes of a chisel point.
12 This night buoys hope that meaning delivers
13 into the bay of the coming future
14 by a force greater than the planet’s hold
15 upon space and time.
