The End of the Line

Just after the solstice, time seems to slip
like water over rock — a regular, modern blip,
a stream that buffers and skips.

Clouds amass forever-long formed
into a generational storm
upon a coast line ill-prepared to see morn.

With the sun no longer at its highest
and the steady rising rivers about to crest,
together let us work on what comes next.

Otherwise, time’s opposition to infinity
and tomorrow’s tendency to become history
insist our extinction is likely.
