Madness At-Hand

Now madness hides in the virus,
but semblance was lost in the host.
A twitch so common, some call it locomotion.
A pounding so hard, it hides from where it comes.
The world so ajar, it hangs off its hinges.

It seems and seems, and the seeming is incessant.
It seems Pilate is a well-liked man;
Judas turns a profit off his investment,
and the devil lives in a penthouse suite with an open door,
where some dare to go.

I put my face in my unwashed hands
with no regard for the novelty
of death and fear in our time
without communion.
Ever-seeming, if a Savior ever was, he is gone,
neither here nor in the now.
