In and Out of Consciousness
Warm bed on a cold night,
souls drifting into a nether . . .

Here now (in-between)
and somewhere else soon,
criss-crossing down to the corner store,
heels clicking and no touch of the plastic world,
soon a near-reality exists
outside of physicality –
where locomotive meaning is
couched metaphysically . . .

Sinking in . . .

Rubber-necked head fallen
into a dream cushions the actuality
that nothing is as it seems
in front of a screen.
The perception of the ephemeral
is counterintuitive;
a dream lets the self be alone
as it sings to itself
with the windows open on a warm night . . .

As if my eyes are open
when they are not,
my bare skin feels
what the willows know
that the possums hide up under the porch
roaming out under the electric lamp light.
The willows sway tight-lipped,
down by the waterfront,
perfectly happy being silent
when the world needs to be still . . .

A day in a dream comes
without regard for linear time;
and upon that porch, you and I know
the willows use the breeze to talk to each other.
As then is now and as now is real,
I follow along in reverence:
inconspicuous possum tracks up the stairs carry meaning,
for heavy feet shoulder a weight not measured in pounds . . .

With that heavy foot, I feel your warm feet under the covers.
A waking breath before succumbing to sleep in the next . . .
